Abstract

CHAHIN-PINZON, Nicolás  and  BRINEZ, Blanca Libia. Frecuency of physical activity in adolescents and its relation with the levels of aggression, impulsivity, and use of internet and videogames. Psychol. av. discip. [online]. 2011, vol.5, n.1, pp.9-23. ISSN 1900-2386.

This study investigates the relationship of physical activity with aggressiveness, impulsivity, internet and video games. The research involved 254 Colombian adolescents between 12 and 17 years (Md = 14.18, SD = 1.47). Three instruments were applied, the Barrat's Impulsivity Scales for children (Bis 11-c), the Aggression Questionnaire of Buss & Perry (AQ) and the CAGE Questionnaire for Detecting Problems of Internet and Video Games in adolescents. The results show a significant relationship between physical activity with the cognitive component of impulsivity (rs = 1.92, p <.001), and the use of internet and video games (rs =.142, p <.05). The present study confirms once again the gender differences in the performance of physical activity in adolescents (U=5555.0, p=.000). There weren't significant differences in age groups (χ²(5) = 7.42, p = 0.191), and no significant correlations were found with the other components of impulsivity and aggression.

Keywords : Physical activity; adolescence; internet; video games; impulsivity; aggression.
