Abstract
MONTOYA DUQUE, Gloria Inés. Sugar cane cutters' strike in the state of Valle del Cauca - Colombia: A collective action in the face of the economic model. Entramado [online]. 2011, vol.7, n.1, pp.104-113. ISSN 1900-3803.
This paper presents a review of the sugar cañe cutters' stríke in the State of Valle del Cauca as a collective action that shows a labor conflict within the context of a generally accepted economic model. This investigative work was conducted on the basis of documentary sources and other previous studies. The cutters' stríke gives evidence of vindication of worker's rights and class conflict. It also suggests alternatives to deal with exclusión and inequity. The paper also raises questions regarding the state model, the exercise of power, and the effects of the economic crisis in a neoliberal environment. Some of the main challenges faced by collective actions are ensuring their continuity expanding public spaces, and building an active citizenship that dríves changes in our society.
