Resumen

MONTOYA RENDON, Luz Elena  y  MONTOYA RENDON, Julio César. Level of knowledge of micro business owners in the wooden furniture manufacturing industry (Palmira, Valle del Cauca) regarding public policies to strengthen productivity and competitiveness (2011). Entramado [online]. 2011, vol.7, n.2, pp.14-39. ISSN 1900-3803.

Competitiveness and its instrument, productivity, are the basic indicators of production systems worldwide nowadays. The United States designs public policies with the intention of resolving these indicators assertively and improving its ranking on the IMD 's Competitiveness Yearbook, among others. This reality is consistent with an information and knowledge society and excludes those who do not embrace it. Therefore, the purpose of this descriptive applied research, in which categorical qualitative variables were used, was to determine the level of knowledge of micro business owners in the wooden furniture manufacturing industry in Palmira, Valle, regarding public policies for strengthening productivity and competitiveness. In order to study the distribution of each response option in a continuum into "ignoring" and "transferring" knowledge, an overall sub-variable analysis was carried out. The highest rates obtained from this analysis matched the category "I've heard about this issue, but I've never delved into it". This gave rise to a series of recommendations particularly focused on public or private institutions responsible for coordinating institutional public offerings for improving knowledge of the group in review and ensuring that this knowledge has an impact on their production capacity. Thus, this contributes to improving the standards of living of the study population with the population of Palmira in mind, which is, in summary, the ultimate goal of the public policy of productivity and competitiveness.
