This paper presents the social mapping experience implemented by Universidad del Pacifico in the lowwater area on the Island of Cascajal in Buenaventura for the purpose of providing coaching to the communities in districts 2, 3, 4, and 5 with the urban relocation process that has been in progress. It identifies the contribution of participatory action research (PAR) to the communities in terms of giving visibility to their cultural customs. The contents of this research report underline the importance of the pedagogical process that results from exploring the territory. They also show how participatory learning empowers communities to create agreements that guarantee their wellbeing by making a solidary transition that enables them to overcome their fear based on everyday actions that can turn their hopes into tangible results.
