Abstract This article presents some reflections aiming at showing the importance of an educational approach that focuses on agriculture and live stock production at schools located in the State of Nariño as drivers of progress for rural students. It also reviews the specific circumstances of society in Nariño in general and the conditions of rural population in particular, and points out the importance of education that not only encourages an interest in agricultural and live stock production techniques, but also strengthens and regains the knowledge and knowhow of communities. It ends by concluding that an agriculture-and-live stock production centered approach is critical to the development of rural social individuals as well as of society in general, as it fosters and favors social, economic, and cultural development.

Keywords : Agriculture-and-live stock production centered approach; social subject; rurality; sustainable development.
