Abstract

GRUESO-HINESTROZA, Merlin Patricia; GONZALEZ-QUINTANA, William; QUINTERO-CUBILLOS, Juan Carlos  and  ROJAS-ROJAS, Edgar Enrique. Scanning the technological component and its relation to organizational and managerial variables: An exploratory study. Entramado [online]. 2013, vol.9, n.2, pp.56-67. ISSN 1900-3803.

Scanning the environment is an extremely relevant activity for the long-term operation of organizations. In particular, scanning the technological component holds a statistically significant relationship with a higher organizational performance level. The purpose of this article was to identify a set of activities to scan the technological component and their relation to an organizational and a managerial variable. To this end, we interviewed a group of top and mid-level managers at twenty companies located in Bogota, Colombia. The study concluded that the organizational variable has a statistically significant relationship to the implementation of scanning activities. There was, however, no evidence of a statistically significant relationship between scanning activities and managerial variables.

Keywords : Scanning; environment; technological component; uncertainty; management.
