Abstract

MOSQUERA-ABADIA, Henry Alberto  and  CARVAJAL-ORDONEZ, Venus Flor Marina. University-society interaction through the extension function. Entramado [online]. 2021, vol.17, n.1, pp.186-203.  Epub May 05, 2021. ISSN 1900-3803.  https://doi.org/10.18041/1900-3803/entramado.1.7230.

Universities are institutions characterized by constant interaction with society through their functions: teaching, research and extension, since the latter has established a greater link with the social environment. Taking into account the import of the extension function, a study was carried out that allowed its conceptualization: identification of its origin, the prevailing paradigms, description of its link with the other missionary functions, its contributions to social development and attention to problems of the environment, for this a case study was developed at the Universidad del Valle through a descriptive analysis applying focused interviews to 80% of those involved in extensive activities, the results were examined through content analysis and complemented with documentary analysis of texts scientific, management reports and Strategic Development Plans. With the above, the contribution of university extension to social development was evidenced and actions were designed that contribute to its improvement in order to strengthen the university-society interaction.

Keywords : University; University-society interaction; extension function.
