AGUIRRE-FORERO, Sonia-Esperanza; SIMANCA-FONTALVO, Richar Manuel e PIRANEQUE-GAMBASICA, Nelson-Virgilio. Department of Cesar, Colombia, and the fight against hunger in rural schools. Entramado [online]. 2025, vol.21, n.1, e11489. Epub 30-Jan-2025. ISSN 1900-3803. https://doi.org/10.18041/1900-3803/entramado.1.11489.
In the Caribbean region of Colombia, poverty and food insecurity rates are high, and the limitations in essential services hinder access to food and increase infant mortality. In this situation, rural schools in the territory provide education and school feeding programs and play an essential role in the fight against hunger-Sustainable Development Goal (SDG2). This study determined the participation of rural schools in the fight against hunger through mixed methodologies (documentary and prospective structural analysis) in four rural schools in Cesar's department. The results showed national policies that involve schools in the fight against hunger. However, there was no evidence of connection with the institutional educational projects reviewed. However, it is highlighted that at the level of curricular plans, there is an option to integrate cross-cutting themes in areas that assist nutrition and contribute to SDG2. Among the findings, key variables emerged in the educational centers, such as infrastructure and human talent transcendental to strengthen SDG2 in schools. Likewise, easy access to inappropriate food was found in the educational centers studied. This research is fundamental for institutional and governmental plans and future research.
