This article is the result of a research project that aims to build a hypermedia focused on competency-based learning for teaching the states of matter to over-aged fifth-grade students. The methodological approach of the research is qualitative descriptive, the analysis was carried out through a case study, consisting of an academic creation exercise consisting of three phases: (i) identification of difficulties in teaching the states of matter, (ii) Identification of the theoretical and methodological aspects for the construction of an educational hypermedia, through observations, interviews, diaries, documents that allow a deep and detailed understanding of social reality and, finally (iii) educational hypermedia was developed. The main result was the development of a competency-based hypermedia platform for over-age students-one of the first of its kind in Colombia-which fosters positive attitudes in students, such as recognizing, differentiating, and constructing definitions directly related to their reality. In conclusion, this is not a prescriptive design, but rather a hypermedia that teachers can adjust according to their immediate institutional context and student characteristics.
