The purpose of this article is to show the different ways that Efraín González, a very well known bandit from the period of la Violencia, is remembered. The fact that Efraín belonged to the Conservative Party makes him an interesting figure for those interested in studying violence and banditry in Colombia. Also important is the way that local level historical continuities are established between this bandolero and armed actors of more recent periods. This could eventually allow for new analyses regarding the relation between politics and violence in the country.
