Abstract

SALAMANCA, Carlos Arturo. Bahía Portete, the massacre and the ritual. Mass violence, mediations and transversal memory practices in La Guajira. Antipod. Rev. Antropol. Arqueol. [online]. 2015, n.21, pp.121-143. ISSN 1900-5407.  https://doi.org/10.7440/antipoda21.2015.06.

This article, focused on the experience of the Wayúu people in La Guajira region of Colombia, analyzes the ways in which events of mass violence are processed. In the first part I present a brief synthesis of the relations between the indigenous Wayúu people and the rest of Colombian society. In the second part I analyze recent experiences of mass violence, looking at the specific forms in which it occurs. In the last part, based on the concept of mediations of memory, I propose the need to redirect efforts towards transversal readings, contrasts and overlaps in order to highlight the need to relate communicative practices of memory to the contexts in which they unfold.

Keywords : Mass violence; memory; Transitional Justice; Wayúu; La Guajira.
