This article presents an assessment, based on the results of a bibliographical review of a complete set of anthropological research texts on popular festivals in Colombia from 1953 to the present day. The objective is to present, along three main lines, some contributions to the discussion regarding academic use of the concept of festival and the concept of ritual; increased interest in the topic of popular festivals, and the tendencies and theoretical debates that have especially influenced the production of research on festivals in Colombia.
