Abstract

SARTORI, Julieta; FERNANDO, Santiago  and  BELEN COLASURDO, María. The Space and its Resources: An Archaeo-faunistical Analysis, Using GIS, of Several Environments in Santa Fe Province (Argentina). Antipod. Rev. Antropol. Arqueol. [online]. 2017, n.28, pp.99-125. ISSN 1900-5407.  https://doi.org/10.7440/antipoda28.2017.05.

The aim of this study is to evaluate the use of wildlife resources by the human populations which inhabited the Santa Fe province. We especially make a comparison between the eco-regions, during the Holocene Epoch, of the Damp Chaco, the Espinal and the delta and islands of Paraná River, on the one hand, and the plain of the Pampas, on the other. Towards that end, we compiled zoo-archaeological information from 13 contexts on 12 archaeological sites that have been analyzed by different research teams. For the spatial analysis of the composition of the sets, a Geographic Information System (GIS) is used. This tool allows us to establish spatial similarities and differences in the use of wildlife resources in a zone that presents ecological differences that may have resulted in a differential use of the taxa.

Keywords : Zooarchaeology; Geographic Information System; environments of Santa Fe province; Paraná River,; use of space.
