Sports and anthropology have consolidated a strong relationship throughout the world. Forty years of anthropological research have fertilized this field in Latin America. In this article, we set out to discuss this relationship by analyzing the evolution of the topics which anthropology has focused on and the work of the academics who have studied those topics. Our review of the history of this relationship will enable us to speak about the future of this field of study, visualize the problems it may face, outline new aims for it and go over the guidelines for its theories and epistemologies.
