Resumen

GASTON, Julián Gil. Sports and Lifestyles. Running in Argentina. Antipod. Rev. Antropol. Arqueol. [online]. 2018, n.30, pp.43-63. ISSN 1900-5407.  https://doi.org/10.7440/antipoda30.2018.03.

Running has become one of the most visible and fast-growing phenomena on a world level in contemporary life. Even through Argentina fits into a global trend in that respect, it is a relatively new way of life in the country, with unique and distinctive features which have to do with gender, social class and age, among other aspects. In fact, running involves a set of practices and programmatic concepts of life that are highly stylized by its adherents, who often speak of their experiences (of training and races, for example) in terms of an important set of ethical and aesthetic precepts. Therefore, our study aims to analyze running as a lifestyle, based on a systematic fieldwork and the use of auto-ethnographic resources, and thus justify the relevance of an analytical and comprehensive approach to running, understanding it to be a powerful tool for self-governance that can be creatively appropriated by those who adopt this lifestyle.
