The concept of hybrid warfare is one of the several ideas currently discussed by defence scholars all around the world to define the 21st Century wars. Aimed at defining a type of conflict that combines the use of conventional and irregular ways of fighting, the hybrid warfare is receiving a significant amount of attention despite the controversies it produces. The article will define the concept, study its theoretical development, identify its fundamental characteristics and evaluate its real effectiveness.

Keywords : Hybrid warfare; irregular conflict; asymmetric warfare; conventional war; transformation.
