The main goal of this research is to deepen knowledge about the possible influence of the origin and gradation of the aggregates on the mechanic behavior of asphalt mixtures. A macroscopic petrographic analysis was done on selected samples of graves and sands from a quarry located near the Coello River in Tolima (Cantol) and from a quarry located near the Tunjuelito River in Cundinamarca (Cancun). Two types of granulometry were selected according to the specifications of the Institute of Urban Development (md12 and md20). The optimum percentage of asphalt was estimated by use of the Marshall's methodology. Laboratory tests on the asphalt mixtures included: dry and moist indirect tensile strength (ITS), moisture damage (MD) and resilient modulus (MR). Half of the samples were subjected to aging in an oven at 80 ° C with air circulation. Results show that specimens with gradation md20, independently of the origin of the soil particles, have higher density, ITS and MR than the specimens with gradation md12. Moreover, ITS results from Cantol specimens were higher than the same results from Cancun specimens for dry and aged at 48 hours. In the moist condition, md20 and md12 Cancun asphalt mixtures had high values of ITS and MD tests. Finally, it was foundthat MR results of Cancun specimens were considerably lower than Cantol specimens for any moistor ageing condition. For the materials studied, results show that the origin of the material and the gradation characteristics affect the mechanic properties of the asphalt mixture.
