BENAVIDES LLERENA, Gina e CHAVEZ NUNEZ, Gardenia. Migration and Human Rights. The Case of the Andean Community (CAN). Rev. Cient. Gen. José María Córdova [online]. 2014, vol.12, n.14, pp.75-93. ISSN 1900-6586.
This paper outlines the most important contributions of the regional report "Migrations and rights in the Andean region. A perspective from the civil society." It starts with the methodological aspects that guided the research. Then, there is a characterisation of the international migrations in the region, a review of some demographic and socioeconomic data, some historical backgroud, and the main flows that occur in the intra and extra fields. In addition, there is an analysis of the regional value of the international human rights instruments. Finally, this article draws some decisive conclusions about that general characterization, from which it might be viewed that the international mobility in the region is a relevant social fact, especilly throughout the last three decades, and this includes emigrants, immigrants and people in refugee and asylum situation. The latter implies a chain of challenges to respect, protection and guarantees for the rights of persons who are in human mobility situation.
