Abstract

GARZON OSPINA, Luz Alexandra. From the Lack of Knowledge to Contextualization: Looking to Gender as an Analytical Category. Rev. Cient. Gen. José María Córdova [online]. 2014, vol.12, n.14, pp.215-228. ISSN 1900-6586.

Approaching feminist theories and gender represents a space for discussion and recognition of the reflection on different epistemological and political views concerning issues such as gender, race, class and sexuality. Thus, the aim of this article is to expose a theoretical and reflective approximation to different approaches to gender category and some views from feminist theories developed by recognized authors in six key arenas: the sex/gender system; gender as a useful category for historical analysis; critique of patriarchal reason of Western feminism; French materialist feminism; approach to feminism; and finally, the postcolonial feminism. The goal of his study is to project a panoramic view to tackle the possibilities, limitations, and discussions from particular contexts, considering the connection between gender and issues of race, class and sexuality.

Keywords : Gender; feminism; class; race; sexuality.
