Abstract

Colombia reached the forefront of military knowledge, between the fifteenth to eighteenth centuries. The predecessors of this knowledge were the Spaniards who defended the borders of his empire. Fernández de Córdoba, Pedro Navarro and the same Spaniards Tercios are included there. So rich experience overturned in the profusion of military treaties, where authors such as Diego de Salazar and the Marques de Marcenado included. This set will result in a military humanism because the military are also among the founders of the Royal Academies of History, Language, Mathematics, among others. The same military know that served the logistical efficiency of the first global Empire, stimulating the establishment of schools and specialized Corps of Artillery, Military Engineers and Marine Engineers. From there they derived the military officer training academies. In short the vanguards of the development of mathematics, the cartography and other scientific and technological fields of the period.
