Abstract

ROLDAN RAMIREZ, Elvia Lucía; AYALA CARRENO, María Consuelo; PEREZ PINEDA, Diana Patricia  and  ROMERO DIMATE, Nancy Yolima. Social Support Networks for Raising Children in Early School Years. Rev. Cient. Gen. José María Córdova [online]. 2016, vol.14, n.18, pp.73-95. ISSN 1900-6586.

The purpose of the study was to identify the structure and functionality of social support networks families that have at their disposal for raising their children during their early school years through family characterization as well of those networks that give them some kind of support. In total, 24 people participated in the study, 7 boys and girls (NN) between the ages of 7 and 11; 7 fathers, mothers and/or caretakers between the ages of 20 and 60; 3 teachers, 2 school counselors of the Pablo de Tarso IED school and 5 representatives of the institutions that provide social services to the community in the locality of Bosa. The approach of the investigation was qualitative and the population sample had to answer a semi-structured interview. The results show there is a high lack of knowledge on behalf of the families about the benefits institutions offer, which in turns does not encourage the generation of interactions, relations and synergy between the nodes; in other words, the family, the school and the institutions that integrate a social support network.

Keywords : childcare; family; protection; raising; social support networks.
