Abstract

YEPES-LUGO, Cristian Armando  and  RUIZ-MORATO, Natalia. Scope of FTAs with United States and South Korea for Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) in Colombia: A Discourse Analysis. Rev. Cient. Gen. José María Córdova [online]. 2017, vol.15, n.19, pp.217-236. ISSN 1900-6586.  https://doi.org/10.21830/19006586.85.

This article analyses different speeches and identifies possible potential opportunities and limitations that Colombian exporting small and medium enterprises (SMEs) may face in the dynamics of organizational management in the context of economic liberalization through FTAs that Colombia has signed with the United States and South Korea, respectively. In addition, general requirements for exporting and importing goods and services in such trade are identified in order to determine the accessibility of Colombia to these new markets.

The results are related to a process of discourse analysis of media reports and government agencies related to the context of these treaties. Many possibilities are based on the products exported to both United States and South Korea; however, the most difficult scenario is observed in SMEs, which, despite having benefited from large capital moved from large companies because of the crisis in 1999, face enormous difficulties because of its low capacity for organizational management.

Keywords : trade agreements; regional integration agreements; Free Trade Agreements (FTA); Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs); economic growth; organizational management.
