Abstract

PAEZ MURILLO, Carlos Augusto; PEON ESCALANTE, Ignacio Enrique  and  RAMIREZ PEDRAZA, Yesid. The context of citizen security in Latin America and the Caribbean: A literature review (2007-2017). Rev. Cient. Gen. José María Córdova [online]. 2018, vol.16, n.24, pp.83-106. ISSN 1900-6586.  https://doi.org/10.21830/19006586.360.

The objective of this research was to review the scientific literature analyzing the citizen security programs implemented in Latin American and Caribbean countries in the last ten years (2007-2017). As a method, we searched the EBSCO database, using "citizen security" as the keyword. Only 5% of the studies found met the selection criteria. Though scarce the information was systematized according to categories of identification and evaluation. It was found that the absence of studies hinders the design, implementation, and monitoring of public policies addressing the most common problems of citizen security in the countries of Latin America and the Caribbean.

Keywords : the Caribbean; citizen security; Latin America; public politics; public security.
