PENA-CHIVATA, Cipriano; SIERRA-ZAMORA, Paola Alexandra  e  HOYOS ROJAS, Juan Carlos. Colombia's border policy in the face of new security and defense threats. Rev. Cient. Gen. José María Córdova [online]. 2019, vol.17, n.28, pp.773-795.  Epub 11-Maio-2020. ISSN 1900-6586.  https://doi.org/10.21830/19006586.473.

The sociopolitical dynamics of borders have provided terrorism and drug trafficking-related organized crime spaces that are conducive to their actions, creating serious threats to the security of States. This situation elicits the need to scrutinize the new threats to Colombia's national security and defense, especially events similar to those described by Herman Khan that involve the interests of different actors and destabilize security, sovereignty, and territory. The recurring events at the border with Venezuela affect not only Colombia but also the balance of regional democratic power. Therefore, considering the mechanisms of collective and cooperative security, as well as the instruments of national power and defense is essential to reducing threats.
