Abstract

ORTIZ ARELLANO, Edgar  and  GUTIERREZ GONZALEZ, Manuel. Profile of the members of the Mexican defense and national security commissions. Rev. Cient. Gen. José María Córdova [online]. 2021, vol.19, n.34, pp.426-449.  Epub Apr 01, 2021. ISSN 1900-6586.  https://doi.org/10.21830/19006586.654.

The federal deputies, members of the Mexican State's Legislative Power, develop their functions in different commissions. Their academic and professional profiles are especially relevant to national security matters (the National Defense Commission and the Bicameral National Security Commission). Thus, this article analyzes the National Defense Commission's presidents' and the Bicameral National Security Commission's deputies' profiles. To this end, a documentary research of the members' profiles in both commissions was made. Weighted variables were established and subjected to linear regression procedures. The results obtained from both commissions showed a downward trend in the academic and professional profiles; this may affect this state body's effectiveness.

Keywords : Chamber of Deputies; congressmen; government; legislative power; professionalization; national security.
