Despite their individualities, Chilean military institutes are evaluated by the National Accreditation Commission using the same parameters as civilian institutions. This research's objective is to propose improvements to the accreditation process of military institutes that respond to their individual characteristics. For this, 17 key informants were asked to complete a questionnaire; some were asked to conduct additional interviews. Besides revealing the differences between civil and military establishments, the analysis data yielded recommendations for the accreditation process. Revealing proposals for improvement emerged, highlighting aspects related to the continuity of processes and accreditation training. The differences between civil and military education and some of the benefits of accreditation were also established.

Keywords : accreditation; armed forces; Chile; military education; quality of education.
