This article analyzes human rights and the environment as they relate to human security, starting from the evolution of the concept of security to the multidimensional perspective adopted internationally. Based on the dimensions of human security, especially the dimension of environmental security, it studies its interrelation with human rights. To this end, it analyzes the framework principles on human rights and the environment set forth by the United Nations in 2018, which establish the states’ main obligations in terms of human rights, related to the enjoyment of a safe, clean, healthy, and sustainable environment. It concludes that these framework principles are key to harmonizing and highlighting the interrelationship of human rights and the environment.
