Abstract

MATIZ ROJAS, Andrés Hernando  and  FERNANDEZ CAMARGO, Jaime Alexander. On the use of artificial intelligence as a means and methods in armed conflicts. Rev. Cient. Gen. José María Córdova [online]. 2023, vol.21, n.42, pp.524-549.  Epub Apr 01, 2023. ISSN 1900-6586.  https://doi.org/10.21830/19006586.1151.

This article seeks to determine the uses of artificial intelligence in the conduct of armed conflicts as a means, through autonomous or semi-autonomous weapons, and as a method, in decision-making in psychological military operations. Psychological military operations, hybrid conflicts, and the potential contribution of this technology in the current and future military scenarios are also taken into account. For this purpose, information was consulted in primary sources and the Delphi method was adapted to respond to six hypotheses and establish their influence and dependence. Among the conclusions, the contribution of artificial intelligence is established as an efficient tool in the conduct of armed conflicts, as a deterrent factor or as a factor of direct confrontation, and the importance of strengthening international law in the face of this technology.

Keywords : armed conflict; artificial intelligence; hybrid warfare; military operations; robotics.
