Abstract
JARMA OROZCO, Alfredo; MAZA ANGULO, Libardo; PINEDA PEREZ, Adriana and HERNANDEZ CIODARO, Juan. Physiological and bromatological aspects of Brachiaria humidicola. Ces. Med. Vet. Zootec. [online]. 2012, vol.7, n.1, pp.88-99. ISSN 1900-9607.
Brachiaria humidicola was brought to Colombia in order to improve forage production and poor acid soils where there was no fodder adapted to these conditions in which this species could be an excellent alternative. However, work to compile aspects and qualitative physiological characteristics are scarce, for this reason, a brief review botany and morphophysiological of this species also present results of various studies that show the values of quality forage such as content protein, neutral detergent fiber (NDF) and acid detergent fiber (FDA), in vitro digestibility of dry matter and lignin content among others. The review took into account the behavior of Brachiaria in environments of special interest such as: soil, nutrients and water.
Keywords : Acid soils; animal nutrition; fodder; pastures; plant ecophysiology.
