Introduction:

systemic thinking as an important element of critical thinking turns out to be an indispensable aspect in the teaching of eco-efficiency to contribute substantially to become aware of the environmental problems that demand an imminent change in the structure of educational policies. In this subject, a documentary review is presented whose

Objective

generate a space for reflection on the importance of the systemic process in the teaching of university ecoefficiency. Through reflective processes, we seek to raise awareness among future professionals so that they assume responsible decision making and contribute from their professional actions to the preservation of the environment and the substantial reduction of environmental pollution at the planetary level.

Materials and methods:

a series of scientific information from different scientific journals was collected, analyzed and interpreted.

Results:

the lack of eco-efficient processes in universities is not necessarily due to the incompetence of the professionals in the area, but to the training processes at university level that have not implemented environmental education with critical thinking within their study plan.

Conclusion:

the results allowed us to deduce that the teaching of eco-efficiency based on systemic thinking generates and/ or strengthens environmental awareness and sensitization in university students.
