In this article we will see that the contemporary international system is characterized by a set of power relations that approximates the model of unipolar hegemony in its descent phase and the model of classical balance of power on the rise. While acknowledging a growing global interdependence, the fundamental interests still collide and lives on an strategic competition for survival and accumulation of power.
