Abstract

GONZALEZ PARIAS, Carlos Hernán; MESA BEDOYA, Juan Camilo  and  LONDONO OSSA, Gustavo Adolfo. COLOMBIAN FOREIGN POLITICS 2010-2014: A TURN TOWARDS AUTONOMY?. rev.relac.int.estrateg.segur. [online]. 2017, vol.12, n.1, pp.267-291. ISSN 1909-3063.  https://doi.org/10.18359/ries.2472.

This reflection article is focused on the time lapse between 2010 and 2014 as the period to be studied, and intends to develop its hypothesis built on the identification of diverse actuations and activities which clearly evidence a change regarding the orientation of the Colombian foreign politics, such as the diversification of commercial partners, the active participation in multilateral institutions, and the country's leading role in polemic issues occurring in the region. All of them configure themselves as practices and methods for the perpetuation of political power, tending to gain room for autonomy without directly confronting the United States. This is a kind of soft law where a conceptual framework points out to autonomy in regards to international relations, and a necessary reconstruction of the evolution of the Colombian foreign politics under the concepts of Réspice Polum and autonomy is presented. Finally, and by means of a pertinent theoretical framework, the aforementioned period is discussed.

Keywords : Autonomy; Foreign politics; Colombia; International relations.
