Abstract

MIGUEZ, María Cecilia. THE UNORTHODOX AUTONOMY AND THE CLASSIFICATION OF FOREIGN POLITICS IN ARGENTINA. rev.relac.int.estrateg.segur. [online]. 2017, vol.12, n.2, pp.207-229. ISSN 1909-3063.  https://doi.org/10.18359/ries.2140.

This article reviews the theoretical model of classification of the Argentinian foreign policy developed by Juan Carlos Puig in his Doctrine of Autonomy. In particular, it analyzes the concept of heterodox autonomy, developed by the author along several of his works. The article proposes to check the concept, indicating some weaknesses from the analysis of historical cases included in the period of the Cold War. To prove these notable weaknesses, the characteristics of the foreign policy of the governments of Arturo Frondizi (1958-1962), Arturo Illia (1963-1966), the last military dictatorship (1976-1983) and Raúl Alfonsín (1983-1989) are synthesized. Finally, the article makes a new classification of the exterior policies and, in the conclusions, a possible contribution for the historical comparative study of the different exterior policies is presented, proposing a scheme of investigation that links economic, political, and strategic variables, departing from a historical approach

Keywords : Argentina; foreign policy; international relations; North-South relations; dependency theory.
