From the systematization and presentation of factual data, this paper accounts for the actual dimension of the United States military presence in Peru and its geopolitical impact. Beyond the government changes and the deep internal political crises in the Andean country, the military ties between Peru and the United States since the democratic transition in 2001 are analyzed critically to identify the interests that maintain this dynamic. This qualitative research triangulates data on military assistance with information from interviews and documents from official agencies. In addition to data systematization (absent in most works on the subject), we report the strategies that seek to legitimize or justify the increase and renewal of the US military presence in Peru.
