Resumen

AMORTEGUI RODRIGUEZ, Luis Renato. The transition to the electric car: a competition for the global control of the automotive industry. rev.relac.int.estrateg.segur. [online]. 2022, vol.17, n.2, pp.13-33.  Epub 31-Dic-2022. ISSN 1909-3063.  https://doi.org/10.18359/ries.5501.

this article argues that the Interest in massifying the use of electric cars In the medium term Is related to the global control of the automotive market since the transition of primary energy sources from non-renewable sources such as fossil fuels (oil, natural gas, and coal) to renewable sources such as solar and wind power Is a long-term Issue that Involves developing more efficient technologies In electricity generation and Infrastructure production costs. This Issue Is part of the challenge faced by humanity In response to climate change, which tends to reduce emissions Into the atmosphere. To this end, primary energy sources and electricity generation are described, as are the evolution of the global oil and automotive markets, and the synergies generated between these Industries. Subsequently, the development of automotive production and the world energy basket since the year 2000 Is presented and analyzed, seeking to identify the behavior and trends of the market, which ultimately will define the future of electric car massification. These transitions of primary energy sources and vehicles present significant challenges for countries and citizens; in the former case, energy security and national interests are affected based on energy capacities, while in the latter case, changes in consumption patterns and people's relationships with nature are affected.
