YEVENES CANALES, Daniel Ignacio. In defense of democracy and against red totalitarianism: Chilean diplomacy and the Czechoslovak question before the United Nations Security Council. rev.relac.int.estrateg.segur. [online]. 2022, vol.17, n.2, pp.55-68. Epub 31-Dic-2022. ISSN 1909-3063. https://doi.org/10.18359/ries.6096.
this article aims to analyze the role assumed by Chilean diplomacy In the Security Council during the political crisis in Czechoslovakia. From this juncture, two factors that influenced the position adopted by the government of Gabriel González Videla are distinguished: domestic policy and the international scenario. Both scenarios sustained the diplomatic action presented at the United Nations, which provoked a direct confrontation between Santiago and Moscow. The significance of this work lies in the consequences of this diplomatic scenario, as well as the lack of specific works on Chile's actions during the vicissitudes of the Cold War. Methodologically, it was necessary to carry out a qualitative analysis of documentary sources obtained from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Chile, the memories of President Gabriel González Videla, and the minutes of the debates originated by the Chilean denunciation at the United Nations.
