Abstract

ZAMORA-DUQUE, Adrián. Bilateral Geopolitical Analysis of Colombia and Venezuela Under the Influence of Future Environmental Trends. rev.relac.int.estrateg.segur. [online]. 2022, vol.17, n.2, pp.89-101.  Epub Dec 31, 2022. ISSN 1909-3063.  https://doi.org/10.18359/ries.6222.

the objective of this article was to analyze global trends regarding the management of future scenarios such as water scarcity. It has been determined that all neighboring countries in the international framework share at least one water source, which may constitute an originating cause of political conflict. From a brief conceptual approach to subsequently visualize water as a securitized element, this article addressed the analysis of the securitization of the environment and its incorporation into the geopolitical board. A succinct overview is presented of the environment in Colombian conflicts and its cross-border effect on Venezuela. In conclusion, emphasis is placed on the relevance of potential conflicts for human beings derived from inadequate management of shared watersheds.

Keywords : political conflict; Colombia; Venezuela; environment; political geography.
