CALCETERO GUTIERREZ, José Roberto. Representations on the category of gender regarding cadets and second lieutenants at Jose Maria Cordova military school. Rev. repub. [online]. 2018, n.24, pp.145-161. ISSN 1909-4450.  https://doi.org/10.21017/rev.repub.2018.v24.a44.

The article presents the results of the research carried out in the framework of the study of social representations on the category of cadets and Second Lieutenants of the Military School of Cadets «General José María Córdova». The study of qualitative-descriptive relevance, focused attention on understanding some social representations about the gender category from the following points of view: a) concepts created by subjects, b) objectivations of such concepts, c) learning or anchoring of representations, and d) Social practices of the content embodied by them and them.

The study, funded by the area of research, technological development and innovation of the ESMIC, is a mechanism to visualize the conflicts around gender relations in the institution, focused on the analysis of social representations, which -according to the main results- although they are formed in spaces like the family, homes, from the elementary school to the high school, is from the social practices of cadets and Second Lieutenant in the institution, where some elements of the patriarchal model are reinforced which are so concerned with United Nations Security Council resolution 1325 of 2000, which insists on always incorporating the gender perspective into military operations and the institutions themselves, in order to achieve gender equality. Whether this is an excuse to call on women's studies and men's studies groups to establish links with the Military School of Cadets to invest resources in both ways, in the very sense of cooperation, enable the promotion of new relational and educational frameworks on gender as a category of analysis in the institution: straight-forward concepts of femininity and masculinity in a more complex manner, as social and cultural constructions.

Palavras-chave : Social Representations; Gender; Gender Dynamics; Patriarchalism; Gender Equality.
