RODRIGUEZ MOYA, nmaculada y MINGUEZ CORNELLES, Víctor. Symbolic Culture and Bourbon Royal Festivities in New Granada from the Funeral of Louis i (1724) to the Proclamation of Fernando VII (1808). CS [online]. 2012, n.9, pp.115-143. ISSN 2011-0324. https://doi.org/10.18046/recs.i9.1204.
This article centers on an interpretation of two examples of Bourbon Royal festivities in the Kingdom of New Granada: the funeral of Louis I in Santa Fe de Bogotá in 1724 and the proclamation of Fernando VII in San Bartolomé de Honda in 1808, focusing especially on an analysis of the sources and of the emblematic culture. In order to adequately understand its meaning, three factors must be taken into account; first, the important tradition of symbolic culture in New Granada; second, the special relevance that funerals and proclamation ceremonies had in the construction of the monarchy's image in the modern age; and finally, the complex historical and political context within which both celebrations took place.
