Abstract

GUZMAN ESPINOZA, Wilson Alejandro. PRODUCTION HETEROGENEITY AND INEQUALITY IN ECUADOR. rev. econ. Caribe [online]. 2011, n.7, pp.117-143. ISSN 2011-2106.

This paper is based on the concept of structural heterogeneity pro-posed by ECLAC and expands on the link between production het-erogeneity and the unequal distribution of income in Ecuador. The main goal of this study is to know what percentage of inequality is explained by the differences in income between productive strata. The main result shows that inequality explained by differences in income between productive strata has increased significantly over the past two decades: in 1999 it explained 6% of inequality on income earnings of workers, while in 2009 it arose to explain 19% of inequality.

Keywords : structural heterogeneity; inequality; income distribution.
