Abstract

**, Luis Fernando  and  POSADA RAMIREZ, Aura Violeta. PARAMILITARIES IN THE CITY OF BARRANQUILLA. ORGANIZED CRIME AND VIOLENCE MARKETS. rev. econ. Caribe [online]. 2014, n.14, pp.34-63. ISSN 2011-2106.

The aim of this article is to develop an approximation from explanatory theories of the organized crime, to the ways and ends used by paramilitaries, more specifically by the Frente Jose Paul Díaz of the Northern Block of Autodefensas Unidas de Colombia in Barranquilla. Also one seeks to demonstrate that the presence of the paramilitaries in Barranquilla, did not obey to a anti-insurgency strategy but to its narrow links with drug trafficking and organized crime.

Keywords : Paramilitarism; markets of violence; organized crime; violence.
