Abstract

PERILLA, Adriana; RODRIGUEZ, Luis Felipe  and  BERMUDEZ, Lilia Teresa. Economic and technical study of tomato production system under greenhouse conditions in Guateque, Sutatenza and Tenza (Boyaca). rev.colomb.cienc.hortic. [online]. 2011, vol.5, n.2, pp.220-232. ISSN 2011-2173.

Historically, the region of Tenza Valley (Boyaca) has favorable agro-ecological conditions for tomato crop. The use of greenhouse system to grow tomato and mostly long lasting hybrids have been used in this region since the end of last century, generating agribusiness activities, and resulting in a high socio-economic impact. Therefore, this research was done with main objective to analyze the technical, economic, and social conditions of production system in the areas of Guateque, Sutatenza and Tenza. The methodology used in this research was based on a survey made for the producers of this system and direct observation of the production process of 10 business units. Within the results of the research, it is important to mention the notorious increment in the partial productivity of this model system against the open land system; this increment was a consequence of factors, such as increased density of sowing, effective phytosanitary control, and using high-yielding hybrids. On the other hand, the possibility of starting a productive cycle at any time of the year overtakes the weather and economic restrains, making this system very profitable and sustainable for the region success.
