ARIAS-CRUZ, MARCO EMILIO et al. The Asian rambutan (Nephelium lappaceum) fruit with potential for Colombia: progress of research in the foothills of Meta. rev.colomb.cienc.hortic. [online]. 2016, vol.10, n.2, pp.262-272. ISSN 2011-2173.  https://doi.org/10.17584/rcch.2016v10i2.5761.

ABSTRACT Rambutan is an exotic fruit of Asian origin that has a huge potential for domestic market and exportation. In Meta department there are crops iriginated by seeds (no grafted). Rambutan is a dioic species (male and female plants), female plants produce low quality fruits, for this reason the crops show commercial and profitability difficulties. Modern and technician crops of rambutan were developed with clones selected by yield and quality, grafted over rootstocks of the same species. Taking those factors into account, Corpoica introduced five clones from Honduras in the year 2006, these were: Jetlee, R134, R156, R162, R167; the plants were grafted and planted in various research centers throughout the country. Plants established in the research center La Libertad were recorded for growth, yield and sanity conditions, with the purpose of knowing ecologic adaptation to the growing conditions of the region. R134 was found to be the best productive clone and R162 was the clone with higher plant development and bigger canopy volume. Clones were susceptible to the dry season of the location. Flowering started at the end of dry season, for flower to fruit it took 114 days. Regarding fruit quality, all clones and unknown source plants showed optimum values for commercial trade. About plagues and diseases, the major concern is a disease known as stem canker (Dolabra nepheliae) which can lead to the death of trees.

Palavras-chave : adaptation; fruit quality; introduction; genotypes; clones.
