External integration mechanisms effect on the logistics performance of fruit supply chains. A dynamic system approach. rev.colomb.cienc.hortic. [online]. 2016, vol.10, n.2, pp.311-322. ABSTRACT This paper presents a system dynamics model designed to understand the effect of external integration mechanisms (VMI, contracts and information sharing) on agri-food supply chain’s logistics performance (transport, inventory, backlogs, demand accomplishment and missed product). It is applied to the case study of mango agri-food supply chain in Bogota-Cundinamarca. Performance indicators were measured for each echelon (farmer, distributor, agribusiness and point of sale) in the flows of fresh fruit and processed products, and also in wide chain. Results indicate that all of them reduce inventory, fruit losses in stock and backlogs at the entire chain. Nonetheless, there are actors that benefit more and others that are adversely affected in certain performance indicators.
