Abstract

A descriptive and correlational study and transversal design applied to identify the relation between This study is aimed to identify the relation between the suicidal ideation (SI) and the characteristics of emotional intelligence (EI) in a group of Psychological students of the state university from department of Magdalena (Colombia). It was used a descriptive and correlational study and a cross-sectional design analysis. The population was made up of 328 students, and the sample selection process was carried out with 157 subjects, who were tested by the scale of emotional intelligence Traid Meta Mood Scale24 and the Beck Scale for Suicide Ideation. The findings indicated a 5,1% prevalence of suicidal ideation, but positive results related to abilities of emotional intelligence were presented. Additionally, it was found negative relations between the SI and the component of emotional repair. However, correlation between suicidal ideation and attention is not detected.
