Abstract

Aim: To analyze the frequency of mental and behavioral disorders in adults attending to neuropsychological evaluation at the psychological care center CES Sabaneta (Colombia). Methodology: A descriptive study - retrospective secondary sources. All medical records of patients who attended in the period between 2008 and 2010 (n = 371) were included. univariate statistical analysis of the sociodemographic and clinical variables, and a bivariate analysis to explore the association between the gender variable and clinical variables. Quadratus chi test, with a confidence of 95 % was used as statistic test. Results: 46 patients corresponding to 12.4 % of the population presented a regular cognitive functioning, with a higher proportion among women and youth. The most frequent mental and behavioral disorders were mild cognitive impairment (54.2 %) and dementia (14.8 %). Discussion: The findings in this investigation, related to the frequency of disorders and the sociodemographic variables of patients referred to neuropsychological assessment, are consistent with published material about this topic.
