Abstract
TORRES, Fabio; ROMERO, Javier; UCROS, Gonzalo and BARRIOS, Luisa. Treatment of non palpable breast lesions. rev. colomb. cir. [online]. 2004, vol.19, n.1, pp.38-42. ISSN 2011-7582.
Occult or nonpalpable breast lesions are discovered as incidental finding in screening mammography. Its preoperative localization is imperative. This paper reports the experience at the University Hospital of Fundación Santafe de Bogotá with a new method originally developed in Milan consisting in the localization of nonpalpable lesions by the injection of a small volume of technecium 99 labelled colloidal albumin into the lesions under stereotactic or echograpenic guidance. The correct localization of the innoculum is confirmed by gammagraphy. The site of the lession is determined using a gamma probe (Neoprobe 2000), and the surgical resection can them be carried out. The use of this technique facilitates the surgical resection of non palpable lesions, wich can be done with precision and accuracy, reducing the volumen of tissue that must be resected, and giving the surgeon the opportunity to perform the operation with better cosmetic results.
