Abstract

ALVAREZ TAMAYO, Andrés  and  RODRIGUEZ, Samuel. Dilatation percutaneous tracheostomy: institutional experience. rev. colomb. cir. [online]. 2004, vol.19, n.2, pp.92-100. ISSN 2011-7582.

At the intensive care unit of San Pedro Claver Clinic in Bogotá, Colombia, we have adopted as the technique of choice the dilatation percutaneous tracheostomy in critically ill patients under prolonged mechanical ventilation. The technique has demonstrated to be secure, of low cost, and is associated with a minor rate of complications. We hereby report our experience over the past two years.

Keywords : percutaneous tracheostomy; trachea, airway; cost-effectiveness.
