Abstract

VELASQUEZ, Mauricio; GARZON, Juan Carlos  and  MARTINEZ, Stella Isabel. Vacuum assisted closure of complex wounds of the chest. rev. colomb. cir. [online]. 2009, vol.24, n.3, pp.195-198. ISSN 2011-7582.

Infected complex chest wall wounds are infrequent but represent a challenge for thoracic surgeons, especially when they are associated with intrathoracic organ involvement in an otherwise unstable and undernourished patient. Vacuum Assisted Closure (VAC) for this type of wounds is uncommon and, so far, only several cases are reported in the literature. We present two cases in order to illustrate clinical and surgical aspects of this approach.

Keywords : thoracic wall; thoracic injuries; wound healing; wound infection; negative-pressure wound therapy.
