Abstract

DUARTE, Carlos  and  LOPEZ, Héctor. Acral lentiginous melanoma: bibliographic review. rev. colomb. cir. [online]. 2014, vol.29, n.2, pp.155-166. ISSN 2011-7582.

Acral lentiginous melanomas, the melanomas most commonly found the distal portions of the limbs, have usually reached more advanced stages than other types of melanoma when diagnosed. Their biologic behavior is more aggressive than in other types of melanoma, so that they have a worse prognosis. It represents 5 to 10% of all malignant melanomas, and is more frequently seen among the Asian, African American and Latin population. The objective of this paper was to complete a review of the current literature, in order to establish the rates of incidence, new findings regarding risk factors, molecular biology, diagnosis and treatment, and the development of new target therapies in the management of advanced and metastatic melanomas.

Keywords : melanoma; interferon-alpha; drug therapy; radiotherapy; surgery.
